And our bones help us do this in many different ways.įirst, our bones protect our insides. ![]() Why do we have all these bones? And why are they of so many different shapes and sizes? After all, some animals don’t have any bones at all (like jellyfish) and others just have a hard layer on the outside of their body (like crabs).īut along with all the other animals who do have bones - fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals – we have a skeleton, because it helps us to survive and to live active and healthy lives. Thank you for your excellent question, Jake.Īs you know, humans have lots of bones - the flat bones that form our skull, curved bones that form our chest, long bones in our arms and legs, stacked bones in our backbone, small bones in our hands and feet, and tiny bones in our ears. What is flat affect8/28/2023 ![]() Sometimes called “flattened affect,” this symptom causes veterans to have reduced ability to express emotions. One less clear symptom that may affect veterans is “flat affect.” Mood changes, memory problems, and panic attacks are common signs of mental conditions. Mental health disorders manifest through a host of symptoms with different degrees of severity. Veterans with certain mental health symptoms may be entitled to disability compensation. When veterans’ health negatively affects their personality and interactions with others, they may find that they cannot work. Other veterans experience traumatic brain injuries that impact their personalities and mood. ![]() Many veterans have personality changes and mental health conditions that arise after service. It's extremely easy for people with autism to misunderstand how language is being used this can lead to serious problems with relationships and can make autistic people vulnerable to those who wish to mislead them.Military service can lead to both mental and physical health conditions that linger for years.But a flat voice, combined with a lack of verbal expressiveness, can easily be misinterpreted. And many people with autism have terrific senses of humor. In fact, many people with autism are extremely emotionally sensitive many are artists, poets, and composers whose emotional sensitivity comes out in their art. This is sometimes misinterpreted as a lack of interest, lack of intelligence, lack of humor, or lack of emotional response. Many people with autism lack the ability to use prosody and thus have what is often described as a "flat" voice. ![]() This can lead to a myriad of social communication issues ranging from embarrassing gaffes to accusations of verbal assault or stalking. People with autism may find it very hard to use prosody to express multiple or subtle meanings, thus limiting their own ability to communicate. |
